Hi friends! I’m home today. Thursday is my usual day to get out and be with my quilting friends but the heat is overwhelming my health. I still sneak out in the morning when I can. I talk to the plants, water and love on ‘em. My fig tree though, my fig tree needs to be moved to ICU. It got cooked.
Being home today I can cook which needs to happen. Lentil salad probably. Limited cooking there.
Anyway, yesterday I started working on the Carpenter’s Wheel mock up options (click for close-up)
I don’t have much in the way of a beige neutral in my stash to cut up unless a decision is made so I did a true mock up. Below I went for it with the cheddar (with cute little brown stars). That was my original choice so I have the yardage on hand.
I’m going to live with this up on the wall for a few days, wake up to it and see how it feels in the morning then we’ll go from there.
If you don’t like cheddar this is going to make you puke but I’d enjoy hearing your creative thoughts just the same. I was thinking a brown binding whenever we get that far. (ps: Click here for a link to an 1860′s cheddar quilt.)

Now before I leave what do you think about this? I found it on Pinterest and it links back to Pieceful Kwilter here. I totally dig these tri hexagons. Just another nifty thing we can do with Inklingo! I might have to try it.
Thanks for visiting and be pieceful! *karendianne.

With those wonderful blocks you can’t go wrong with either choice! It will speak to you and you’ll know the right choice
My fig trees have both been very disappointing this year. They were both loaded with fruit, but then we had hot and dry and the figs started to shrivel. Then we had monsoon and they bloated and became totally tasteless. Bummer. Your blocks are so pretty!
I’m torn. I think the cheddar makes a more striking quilt, but I think it takes the focus away from the blocks, which would be a shame. However I also think the plain off white is a bit boring. It seems like you need something in the middle…something that would set your blocks off without taking away from them. I’ll email you. :0)
I thought i was going to like the neutral but the cheddar sort of grabs me…guess that is why we use design walls! Stay safe in this heat…this year has been tough.
p.s. I love the look of those hexies (but they’re not something I am tempted to piece).
I’m not usually a fan of cheddar – but I actually kind of like it here. Although ~ I’m thinking the cheddar squares need plenty of quilting texture to break up those large expanses (so they don’t overwhelm your gorgeous wheel blocks). This one is going to be a knock out!
I like the contrast of the chedder with your blocks! It makes them “pop” more than tan or white would. Go for it!
Its not surprising that the heat has gotten to you. Best to stay inside and try to keep cool. It has been very hot and dry (to the point of drought) here in lower MI.
Take good care!
Karen
You already know I love the cheddar. It is a strong color but marries well with all those great color in your pieced blocks.
Been a mostly cool summer here, and unusually humid for a couple of weeks. I like drier and cooler rather than warmer and more humid! My sister is being roasted in St. Louis.
Hmmmm……the beige is a bit blah, isn’t it? and I love the cheddar, although one’s eye goes straight to it and bypasses your Carpenter’s Wheel blocks. All that work and it is missed! The cute little brown stars would be pieced into or appliqued onto the cheddar? That would break up the cheddar nicely. Even a shade somewhere between cheddar and beige might work.
Everything’s better with cheddar! And chocolate (binding)… oh, yeah! Two thumbs up, Kiddo.
The cheddar really sets off the carpenter’s wheel blocks… good choice! I’m not a fan of cheddar but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate it in a quilt… just probably will never use it myself.
Too hot here as well… did my errands early this morning but forgot I had a cute hair appt at 1pm. What was I thinking when I made it? *lol*
I don’t gag on cheddar — far from it — but I still think that a light background sets off them gorgeous blocks better. I just made a great pasta salad. If I get a chance I’ll run over with some for you.
