Border Blaster

Sometimes the border is a sixteen hundred mile wire fence, barbed.  I’ve decided that’s why they take so long. Yet other times the border ain’t nothin’ but a little picket fence to hop on over.  Without tripping.  Naturally I’d be the one to trip.

[color of fabrics don't show up well here today]

I had to unsew the first bit of that .75″ black stop border.  I’ll spare you the details but I  laughed at myself.  Got ahead of myself again, not thinking it through.  I’m sending a shout out to my friend Susan right now.  Susan who likes to draw it on write paper.  (should have done that!)  Anyway, It’s fixed and I’m happy with my border.  It’s a 3.5″ strip (unfin.) border with a .75″ (unfin.) stop border or in this case more appropriately called “peeper.”  What do you think, do you like the Cheddar Cheese & Crackers with the border or without?  It’s just an opinion, let me know.  I’m fine with that either way.  Let me know…

I enjoyed sharing Janet’s Vine Quilt with y’all and appreciate all the support, resources and ideas from that post.  Thanks so much.   The best thing I got out of sharing that entire Applique plan with you was how much enthusiasm you have with me.  I totally dig that.  Of course now I opened my big mouth…

In another skill area, last night I went to a lecture by Cindy Blackberg given at The Olde Green Cupboard.  I’ll write more about that outing in another post.  Tonight I’m going to sit here, work on binding a quilt and watch the Olympics.  One thing for sure – this sure is a good quilty time!!!

  1. Your version, with borders really looks good. I'm contemplating borders, and took a quick look at yours again. Thanks for sharing the dimensions. Maybe I'll borrow? Is that ok with you?

  2. Yep, love the border. Very pretty and just the right combination. I am glad you got to go out to a lecture, that sounds like fun, hope it was!

  3. Wonderful! I love the borders too, especially that little black peeper! And yep, I'd be tripping over the fence right along with you. They don't call me Grace for nothin'

  4. AH! I took a class from Cindy Blackberg umteen years ago! She traveled way up here to little North Dakota in March…and it was snowing during our class. (Our classroom had a large floor-to-ceiling window.) She said “Well isn't this a lovely sight.” Can't wait to hear about what you thought of her lecture.

I'm usually a no-borders kind of girl…but I am LOVING this!!! Truly. Perfect. The 16 patches look dynamite surrounding it, too! Just sayin'. ;-)

    Olympic watching hugs….

  5. I love the little quilt just the way it is, but I'm sure you have an awesome plan for the border, so I'm just going to wait and see where the music takes you. The peeper border is wonderful – why don't I ever think of doing that?
I'm soooooo happy you're having a quilty good time. I have been enjoying the Olympics, too! I'd better get some hand-sewing to do while I watch, instead of just sitting on my fanny with my portable heaters around me.

  6. I love it!
and speaking of tripping over the picket fence, I'd be the one catching my jeans on it and tearing a big hole in them that I'd have to mend later, but I'd probably be a nice soft spot for you to land on when you tripped!
