How many times has this happened to you? Was it a miscut, misread (pattern/plan) or a mis-measure? Mine was a complete misread. So much so that I actually thought the pattern was wrong! I mean, it couldn’t be me, right? Have you ever experienced this, where you thought the PATTERN was wrong? Sheesh. Talk about Ego! (I must really trust you to be sharing this embarrassing fact) I mean, like, because I’m so completely known for my mathematician-like brain, too. Fooey on that. Not at all true. I’m not saying a pattern can’t be wrong, it can, but not generally.

Once I found where I mathematically crashed I fixed it. It took about 30 minutes of brain gymnastics because mostly word problems flunk me. But I endured and these are the blocks I made to keep myself busy and mellow last night and even some tonight. I was inspired to think 16 patch over at J’s Quilting Blog. ~ credit where credit is due.

It really has been high stress around here lately; the hits just keep on coming. We all have it like that from time to time though so this isn’t about the struggles. It’s just to share my blocks that were good therapy. The free and healthy kind. Do you think I should make some more?
….I.LIKE…….there can't be much wrong….afterall there is cheddar involved!!! mmmmm cheddar!
Love that cheddar!
Karen Dee, Happy Thanksgiving! Keep on stitching…you always end up with beautiful quilts!
I love the blocks, definitely make more. I don't blame you for thinking the pattern could be wrong, I have struck that a few times. Especially in magazines.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and many blessings!
These are nice …. do you want your special block to go with these? If yes, let me know the size with and without sashing….
Patterns can definitely be wrong. I once worked at a quilt book publishing company (a big name designer) Not one book went out of there without some kind of mistake or mistakes. And some were real doosies!
And yes, we all make mistakes in reading instructions. You can't believe how many customers would call and tell us something was wrong. And much of the time it was just reader error. We all do it!
What great little blocks. To bad about the pattern misread. I think this has happen to all of us. I hate it worse when I unpick something as I think I've done it wrong, only to find that it was right and I have to redo it the same as it just was. Not that that ever happens to me
Um, yeah, have been there. At least you have sashing that is too big, not too small, LOL! Reading directions cannot be rated too highly, IMHO. Many times I've been glad I read cutting directions “Just once more” before I run my rotary cutter…:)
Absoulutely you should make more blocks. These look like miniature game boards, very inviting to play.
Keep going! They're so pretty!
I know, I know. I just got half my blue and white quilt sewn together and discovered two blocks that were turned wrong.
Oh, I like those! The 16 patch looks so lopsided to me that I don't like it, but that frame with the dark corners helps the off center look blend in.
Hang in there, and I hope you will dodge the hits.
Hope you can dodge the major hits! I love your chedder cheese blocks…just melt in your mouth!!
I usually think I've done something, not that the pattern is wrong, even when it is! It makes me feel good when the pattern is wrong, even though it was a frustrating journey to find that out. Nobody's perfect, eh?
If your Quilty Heart tells you to make more cheddar blocks, by all means! They are lovely.
Happy Tuesday to you and the zoo!
lol I'm laughing with you, right?! Certainly I'm not laughing at you…because I totally have been there before, too. But you. You have such a way of putting it! You're the best!
Are ya making any more blocks with the cheddah, sistah?
Sending you “Good Tuesday” hugs and vibes….
Absolutely make some more…they are wonderful as usual. You really are a fantastic quilter and although I don't have a lot of time to check in…it is always fun when I get to catch up with you.
Hugs,
Anett
Your blocks are just wonderful. I love the 16 patch block, and the cheddar just makes it better.
Thanks for your mention of my doll quilt. It's great to know we are kindred spirits!
Cheddar is so lovely in a quilt isn't it? So now you have potato chips and cheez-its–a regular snack shack lol! Deep breaths and let the stress go; it's a holiday week after all.
You really make me laugh sometimes. Patterns wrong? I'm not a quilter but I can relate – Ages ago I bought a table from Ikea, and couldn't put it together, so I got out my power tools. Went shopping for clamps and just before I was going to drill some extra holes that “They forgot” I looked at the directions again and lo-and-behold all I had to do was turn the legs and they fit perfectly! Those clamps I bought are now used to clamp Art2Art's overhead mirror onto a table top. It's all good.
Your blocks are pretty and warm!
Karen Dee, patterns can be wrong. Your blocks are beautiful…you are so smart and you will come up with a gorgeous quilt.
I am planning on doing something like that without the sashing – shoot me now.
Go for it girl!!
Love the colors…..LindaMay
I like your little 16 blocks and anything looks good in Cheddar! I have some old quilting books and they don't include the seam allowance in the measurements…this has bitten me in the proverbial you-know-what several times…..grrr
Keep it up…I'm delighted to see more fantastic blocks! You have an eye for what I love!!
Actually, I like your 16s better than the ones that inspired you.
Love those blocks…keep going!
oh love the blocks yes make more and if you don't want to you know where to send them!
everything is better with cheddar
the blocks look great
Kathie
Well patterns can be wrong as the others have said, but in my mind I always know it's them, not me. I mean it just couldn't possibly be me, but I'll go along with it just to humour “them”.
it is cheddar fabric. maybe i gonna make a cheese quilt one day.

There are definitely patterns out there that are wrong! I know that sometimes if I look at a pattern and don't really think it through, I'll come away with the wrong idea. Been there, done that. Sometimes it leads to new fun ideas.
Patterns can be wrong, believe me. But you seem to have sorted yours out OK – those blocks are working out well!
