Another Side of Life at LeeHaven

Parrot food? Yes, Parrot food. This particular batch consists of garbanzo beans, steamed Brussels sprouts, pecans, couscous and pumpkin. Some stuff is worked with my Cuisinart and after that it’s eventually mixed. This batch needed finger mixing. I keep stuff on stock so I never really know what I’m making for these two.

The stuff has to include vegetables, fruits and high Vitamin A stuff. Along with healthy nuts and things.

Never seed – not really never, still not healthy. Nuts, yes and definitely pellets from time to time. Katie (seen below) is a great eater. She’s a Female Eclectus. Eats about anything. Unlike Kismet, the green Amazon. From the beginning of her life with me (a few months old?) she was picky. Worse than a cat I swear. Her youth was a little stressful. After a while I told her “I’m not a short order cook.” Obviously that remark was for me and me alone. I had to tighten up. Kismet has improved yet not adventurous like Katie; like Mikey, she’ll eat anything!

Still much work ahead but Kismet’s in front of her window now. Happy Parrot.

I’ve got large hanging play gyms for these guys and I’m looking forward to getting them out. Not sure when that’ll happen but it’s on the radar. At least as long as the Animated Radar Loop refreshes every so often like it’s supposed to.

  1. I Thought you would like to know this. As I was reading about “Tagging” I thought I would tell you that I received an e-mail, supposedly from you, that said you had sent me pictures.
I had already found out that this is a bit of a scam so I just deleted the e-mail. However, I'll bet it was sent to everyone who ever posted to your blog.

  2. Ohhh…you can be the Emeril of pet world, Karen! Your recipe reminded me of the homemade food my mom used to make for her dachsunds – vegetables chopped up with boiled hamburger (she cooled it first and scraped off all the fat!) and steamed rice! This is so wonderful of you to do for your best friends! Sophie thinks so, too!
    Cheers!

  3. Enjoyed yet again another pet slave story. They really do keep you on your toes! Is Kismet noisier in front of the window or has that given her something to see and she has clammed up? :-)

  4. Tee,hee, I'm beginning to understand why you call yourself a “pet-slave”.

Hope you get your lovely quilting day.

    Take care.

  5. Those are well-loved parrots! How often do you have to cook up a batch of whatever for them?
I'm also curious about the mat under the bowl. Looks intriguing.

  6. Recipes for birds! Very interesting! I love your little bird tutorials. I didn't know any of this! And what is that little placemat under the bowl? Did you make it? Wish I could see more of it.

  7. Dang…that sound pretty terrific, really! LOVE the dollop of orange, pumpkiny goodness. Bet it even smells pretty great. Hmm…think you could add an egg to it…smash it all together…and fry it like a wafery-crackery sort of thing?! Mmm. Mmm. With a dilly-phili cream cheese sort of spread?

    Party-time hugs…. ;-)

  8. Scratch the pellets, and I wouldn't mind eating that :o )
Thanks for sharing the “birdy” side of you! Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs and stitches

  9. Well taken care of parrots. My G'ma had one that lived to be 100+ that road the high seas with my gr-uncle in the US Navy thru WWII. Polly could out swear any sailor & recognized anyone stepping onto the front porch, calling out by name 'Hi, Bob' or 'Hi, Bill'. Very interesting birds.

  10. Your parrots eat better than I do! Their cuisine sounds quite yummy. I always enjoy reading about your birdies – thanks for the insight into another part of your life.

  11. Refresh! Re-animate! Re-Loop into another reality! Fine feeding frenzy for your little ones…how lucky are they? And fabulous, fabulous placemat I see peeking. Show it up close without the food. Did you make it, too?

  12. It's always amazing how much we cater to and care for our pets, but love makes the world go round.

They are lucky to hava a mama who loves them enough to take the time, effort and care to be so good to them.

How are you doing, my dear? Feeling better?

    Hugs and smoochies
