“Bits and pieces of red, black and ivory fabrics from her scrap bag and a love of tradition blocks inspired designer Carrie Nelson to create this stash-busting throw.”

My love of hot deep berry reds attrackted me to this quilt. And yes, you’re right my friend, I hear you – the Stars ultimately threw me over the edge. Now, I don’t have nearly the fabric assortment required for this quilt but last April ['06] my local Quilt Shop sold the fabrics needed for this in a bundle so I picked it up and stashed it away until inspiration struck.
Reflecting on Mayberry:
Cosmically!!! My friend Lisa (@ the quilt shop) was making this quilt at the same time I was! She started before I did so I was able to get some tips from her. That worked out great and made the quilt extra fun.
I thoroughly enjoyed making this quilt. I worked on it daily without fail. For a couple weeks I set it aside to make a fabric basket but that was about it. I enjoyed cutting it, piecing it, sewing it and watching it come together. With this particular blocks – watching it come together was the neatest part.
My friends at the Quilt Guild meeting were unable to determine where the blocks were at first. THAT was a huge visual compliment. Once I pointed them out it made sense but at first glance you might miss it.
This was the first time I had a pattern with 400 rectangles to cut. That number boggled my mind until I learned the magic power of 10.
I made all borders, INCLUDING AND SPECIFICALLY the sawtooth border, before I even thought of sewing the rows of blocks together. Smart move.
Pressing this quilt flat with the added bulk at the intersecting points was a bitch; no other way to put it. I worked it out though and now its flat and should quilt nicely.

What an awesome achievement! Lisa and I were drooling over that pattern when it came out in the magazine. We both thought we had enough reds in our stashes to make it, but some other project caught our interest. Man, that is some quilt!
Woweeee! What a fantastic quilt! Congratulations Karen! It is splendid in every way! I’m also so impressed by the professional way you have described it, dated it and given the information. Have you made a label for it? I would be so proud to put my name on that quilt if it was mine!
It is indeed, a masterpiece, and I bow to your talent!!Who knew that pinwheels could look so dang good??!!
It is a masterpiece!!! Beautiful work!
